Follow these steps to set up an HP LaserJet M14-M17 or M28-M31 printer on a wireless network from iPad or iPhone:
- Disconnect any USB cable.
- Turn on the printer you want to set up and wait until it is idle and in a ready state.
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button for twenty seconds.
- When the Attention and Power lights blink simultaneously, release the Wireless button.
- All printer network settings are restored to factory defaults.
- With the settings restored, the printer restarts automatically.
- On an iPad or iPhone connected to the network in which you want to connect the printer, go to 123.hp.com.
- Tap Get the App and then follow the prompts to install HP Smart.
- Open the HP Smart app, tap the check box to agree to the terms, and then tap Start.
- The Welcome screen only appears the first time the app is opened.
- If prompted, tap Allow to enable notifications from HP Smart.
- Tap the plus sign, then Add Printer, and then Set Up and Add a New Printer.
- To connect the printer to the network, you must make a connection between the printer and your iPad or iPhone.
- Open the iOS Settings, and then select Wi-Fi.
- In the list of detected networks, connect to the network that has HP-Setup and your printer model in its name.
- Return to HP Smart and the app connects to your printer.
- Follow the instructions to connect the printer to the network, including adding any network password or passphrase, if necessary, and then tap Continue.
- The app finds the printer, configures it for a wireless connection, and then connects it to the network.
- With the connection complete, tap Continue.
- With the printer connected to the wireless network, reconnect your iPad or iPhone to your wireless network through iOS settings.
- Once reconnected, the app verifies the printer has been successfully set up on the network.
- If a Cannot Obtain Printer Details screen displays, simply tap Skip to proceed.
- If your printer hardware has not been set up, follow the instructions and videos to install the toner and paper in your printer.
- Continue following the prompts and adjusting any settings to finish setting up the printer in HP Smart.
- With the printer setup complete, try to print from your iPad or iPhone by tapping Print a Document.
- Follow the instructions, adjust any desired settings, and then tap Print.
- The document prints over the wireless network on your LaserJet printer.
- The printer is ready for printing and can be set up on other devices.
- To confirm the wireless settings and to assist in setting up other devices, print a Configuration Page from the printer control panel.
- Press and hold the Start Copy or Resume Cancel button.
- When the Ready light blinks, release the button and a Configuration Page prints.
- The Configuration Page displays the settings for your printer, including the IP address which can be used to set up your printer on other devices.
